DUBLIN – A deal between the UFC and Gina Carano is on the immediate horizon, and a fight between Carano and women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey is targeted for the end of this year, according to UFC President Dana White.

She doesn't deserve an immediate title shot. Put her against Carmoache or someone and let Cat have next crack at Ronda

Yeah an immediate shot is stupid from Carano's position IMO.

If I were her I'd want to shake some of my rust off, before going against the best woman in the world

I swear this is the worst week to be a fight fan minus the fight card that happened the other night that was good.

I mean MMA and Boxing wise.

1st- Pacquiao vs Algieri gets made. WTF is this shit? Pac signs with Arum for an extra year just to fight Bradley and then a junior welterweight with 1 decent fight under his belt?

2nd. Then this nonsense? I swear all you have to do is be an American Idol contestant and rack up a few wins and you can get a title shot in the UFC.

The UFC probably doesn't want to risk Carano losing prior to a fight with Rousey. This seems like a pretty straightforward deal where they bring in Gina for a one off big buyrate and she doesn't fight in the UFC again afterwards.

As far as the sport aspect goes, you won't find many people arguing that Carano is deserving of an immediate shot. This fight is more about spectacle than sport.

Both the UFC and Carano are looking for one big buyrate payday.

She is going to get paid big bucks for a fight she probably knows she's going to lose, and the UFC can capitalize on arguably the most well known WMMA fighter to casual fans.

It's not what the hardcore fans want to see, but it will likely sell better than Zingano vs Rousey would.

Certainly Carano doesn't deserve a title shot, not after something like 5 years out of competition, coming off a loss. She needs a tune up fight.

Gina was legit though, and maybe she still is. Maybe she will be a contender. But against Rousey, that's too much too soon.

i'd rather see this.

i did read a while back that the ufc needed to give rousey a break & let contenders build in the division, so i guess this is a way of giving her that break. just sucks the hype train is going to try to pass this off as a legit title fight

Seconds after Jason Statham shows interest in fighting anyone in the UFC.

He could fight anyone in the company and it would 100% make the PPV.

Is Carano really as popular as people think? I mean, she's been out of MMA for 5 years and that's where she was popular. Was the main character in Haywire that made little to no noise box office wise. Was in Fast and Furious 6 as some girl, nothing noteworthy.

If this fight does happen, I can see it doing about 500k at the most.

She's still one of the most searched female athletes in the world despite not fighting for 5 years.

I think she's actually more popular among non MMA fans than Rousey is, and probably equally as popular among casual fans.

She's just been announced as the lead character in a comic book movie and I'm sure her return to fighting will help promote the movie.

If I had to guess how many buys the fight would do I think it would be in the 600-700k range providing there was a decent co-main.

Didn't Carano take out Channing Tatum in Haywire? He's probably a LHW.

Sounds deserving to me.
