Spike TV today announced that Bellator MMA’s top two executives have parted ways with the company.

Bjorn Rebney, Bellator’s founder, chairman and CEO, as well as company president and COO Tim Danaher, have the left company, effective immediately.

A reason for their departures wasn’t given, though a statement from Rebney mentioned a difference “in our views on the right strategic direction.”

I don't think he was happy being a lap dog. When he was his own man, he seemed genuinely more passionate.

Hmmm... BFC and Rebney part ways citing differences in vision on the same day it's reported Viacom really wants Kimbo Slice in BFC.... Yeah, something tells me the vision Viacom wants is cheap thrills for cheap views hence why guys like Sokoudju, Baroni, Slice, and a few others are getting cropped in now. Tells the whole story right there, Viacom wants people like Kimbo, Rebney doesn't. I like the vision of the guy who took out multiple mortgages on his home to build an mma promotion from nothing, not hundreds of millions in vegas mafia money, but from nothing but his own hard work to the strong entertaining promotion it is today with over 120 cards on national programming. Coker is good but he is gonna be in a worse position then he was in in SF where he had no confident backing to the product, here he will have something that looks like it will resemble the time warner guys going mega cheap to run down what was wcw.

Thanks for Bellator Rebney.

I love the tournaments. It's one of the few good things about Bellator.

I'm sure it ultimately comes down to money.

Bellator was likely losing a ton of it, and while Rebney's way of running things was better for fans it wasn't paying the bills.

I do think Viacom is responsible for the influx of UFC veteran cast offs as they are probably hoping they can make some extra bucks that way, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

There's no room for another North American major MMA promotion, if a rival to the UFC is ever going to come about it will have to come from Europe or Asia

Yay Bellator is EliteXC 2.0 now. I'm having a hard enough time caring about MMA and now one of the few unique orgs is just another UFC wannabe. Is One FC a clear worldwide #2 now?

I'd say Bellator is still #2, WSOF a clear #3 and One FC 4th.

WSOF will probably overtake Bellator if the direction they are heading continues though.

The tournaments were indeed the best aspect of Bellator and something I can only hope the UFC would adopt. Funny that people here seem more interested in arbitrary unearned title shots over the most legitimate way to determine the top contender. Oh well, there's a reason the UFC strives to copy the WWE model...

I think we'll see the UFC absorb bellator in the near future

Scott Coker took over...

Bellator isn't going down, they're stepping up their game and Viacom is increasing Bellator's budget.

I liked Bjorn, it's a shame how Dana demonized him and the media and fans went with it, I think that had more to do with it then anything.

Viacom increasing spending on Bellator

The tournaments are what made Bellator, I don't like this move
