Fresh off a victorious return to the UFC and an upset of Phil Davis, Anthony Johnson (17-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) will meet fellow light heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) at UFC on FOX 12.

UFC officials today announced the bout, which is the first for the card, following an initial report from FOXSports.com.

UFC on FOX 12 takes place July 26 at SAP Center in San Jose. The main card airs on FOX following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Although it won’t be the main event, Johnson vs. Nogueira is slated for the main card.

There aren't many guys available for rumble right now so this is a decent fight. I'd like to see a standup war between these guys...hopefully little nog doesn't get injured before this fight

Ya, I agree. Looking at the top of the division this is the biggest fight for him if he wants this quick of a return. I question whether or not Lil Nog will actually be his opponent though. They should have someone lined up just incase. If this fight does happen I don't like Nog's chances.

Good next step for Rumble imo, and was the one I was pulling for in my 'Fights to Make' post. Due to lack of available guys and it's still a solid test since Nog is coming off a win over Evans (even though over a year ago and largely unimpressive, still a win).
Both guys are both strikers so it should make for a fun fight. I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson was able to stop Nog here though.

Doubt Lil Nog makes it to the cage.

I like the matchmaking here. The winner firmly solidifies their top ten ranking and is a good win away from real title contention. I think AJ is going to bully Rogerio though.

IMO AJ already solidified a top 5 spot after the Davis destruction.
He was supposed to be AJ's cryptonite: top level wrestler with top level BJJ, and AJ embarrassed him.
I agree it's very unlikely this fight holds up.

Interesting match up.

If Johnson can make it nothing but a stand up battle like he did with Davis he will take the fight with ease I am thinking.

I wrote this out just a few days ago when I was trying to figure out who would be next for Rumble. I assumed Lil Nog was out.

Taken:
JJ
Gus
DC
Hendo
Bader
Cavalcante
Wanderlei
Sonnen

Injured:
Glover
Shogun
Manuwa
Lil Nog

Just beaten:
Davis

Training partner:
Rashad

Dropping to MW:
Te Huna
Latifi

Available names:
OSP
Maldonado

The Lil Nog matchup makes sense, hes coming off a win over Tito and Rumbles training partner Rashad. Also I think Rumble will come out to prove a point and stand with Lil Nog for the majority of the fight, only scoring takedowns late in the rounds to secure the judges scorecards. Making it a fun fight to keep Dana happy and to keep himself relevant and popular.

But I'm with most of you, lets hope Maldonado has a quick turn around as Lil Nog wont make it to the cage.

This weekend there's going to be news about Nogueira backing out due to injuries.
