It has been 17 days since I've had a cigarette. Cold turkey no patches or gum. I really want to quit this time but WHEW!!!!! it's fucking tough. Shit loads of cravings after good food/sex/4:20/drinking/anything else LOL I got past the biggest test I think which is not smoking while your drinking. Anybody got some good advice or tips that could help out. Thanks

Well done dude! 17 days is quite an accomplishment. As someone who once quit for 30+ days, let me give you some advice

For cravings, I would recommend a little mental exercise. When you find yourself thinking about how much you want a cigarette, stop and tell yourself how bad it is. How it wastes your money, smells up your clothes, lowers your life expectancy, as well as quality of life, et cetera. Tell yourself, I don't want a cigarette. I am not a smoker.

Keep doing that, over and over, and you can disassociate cigarettes with pleasure and quit.

Also, ponder this: if you went and smoked one cigarette right now, you would probably get lifted as fuck. But if you smoked another cigarette maybe 30 minutes or an hour later, it probably wouldn't do anything. Cigarettes rarely yield any satisfaction, it's mostly just habit/addiction.

My friends went the ecig route. No matter what is in them, they are still less damaging than a cig.
You can also keep telling yourself that you WILL get cancer, maybe not in the lungs but the association between them and many cancers is very well established.

I'm coming up on six months. I used Chantix to quit, but I wouldn't recommend that shit to anyone. My stomach still isn't right after taking that pill. The upside is that I don't smoke and I won't smoke again because of all that pill put me through, though.

As for your situation, the urge to smoke is greatest in the first two weeks. After that it's just a matter of distracting yourself when you get the urge. Find something to do that takes five minutes or so whenever you get the urge. Go for a run, play a quick game of Madden, something... Just take your mind off it for five minutes and that seemed to work for me. Everyone is different, though. Find what gets your mind off smoking and keep doing that.

The only thing that works is staying busy.
Read, run, jerk off! Keep your mind & hands busy & before you know it it'll be months later & you'll be breathing like a champ

i got a blue ecig & it helps me a lot. ive had 3 cigs in the last 4 months & i only smoked those bc i was incredibly drunk & i knew i wasnt so weak that i would go buy a pack.

i also am pretty hooked on the whole "i havent smoked regularly since christmas" vibe. yeah ive had 3 cigs since then, but it's not my lifestyle anymore so i dont mind counting that its been 4 full months since i quit regularly smoking.

just focus on how long it has been since you smoked, keep wanting to make that number of days turn into number of months & after a while you'll be proud of yourself.

also, after a while, you'll notice that you actually will physically feel better since you quit.

Great job man. Keep it up. I quit for a year and a half but a shitty job with lots of downtime got me right back on them again 2 years ago. It's hard to quit but keep thinking that once you do you'll feel so much better and you'll live so much longer.

Whatever you do don't ever smoke even one. You'll hear the people say I only smoke when i'm drinking no big deal & then you have 1 and before you know it it's every time you're drinking. Then you end up smoking when you're not drinking & just stressed. Then it's a few a day & before you know it it's half a pack & you're a smoker again.

Here's a link to my thread when I quit for my 2nd time last October, unfortunately it only lasted about a month. Link
