I was watching Live when it happened and all I could think about was Anderson Silva style leg break....sucks, I was really looking forward to that fight.

I prefer to think of it as a well timed defense that resulted in injury. That was n accident.

I think that too, his opponent had a quick reaction to defend it. It's always an interesting perspective as it's not something we're used to, a defensive maneuver winning a fight. I think the majority of people think it isn't a legit win, as it's not the same as a flat out KO or anything but technical the result of there actions resulted in the opponent no longer being able to continue just like a heel hook or a big overhand right.

Its the same as not answering the bell. They could just keep fighting and I'm sure he would tap. We would have 2 sub's this year from checked leg kicks. Its a fight your job is to stay healthy and win. If you gas's and get finished no one makes excuses for you. If a guys hand gets broke and he loses no ones like well yeah but he broke his hand. Probably shouldn't say no one I suppose.

I agree, that was no accident, Saki checked that kick like a champ and definitely broke Spong's leg because of it.

it was great defense, I just meant something like "what are the odds". But now that it's happened twice in the last few months I guess the odds are greater than I thought.

I was looking at some of Johnny Eduardo's old fights online, back when he was first coming to the UFC. I believe he broke a couple legs that way.

That was a terrible injury, it sucks when anyone gets hurt that bad. In spite of that though, that was a great event overall last night.

With more fighters having top notch leg kick defense we will definitely be seeing more of this than we have in the past.
