First, the challenger was out of the Memorial Day weekend title matchup. Now, the champion is out, too.

UFC middleweight kingpin Chris Weidman has been forced to withdraw from his first post-Anderson Silva defense, scrapping the proposed UFC 173 main event, FOX Sports has learned.

Two sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed that Weidman would not be able to fight as the result of a minor knee injury that will require surgery.

The UFC corroborated the information in a follow-up text to FOX Sports, and said that his match against Lyoto Machida will be moved to UFC 175 on July 5.

One of the sources told FOX Sports that on Monday, Weidman saw a doctor that affirmed an original prognosis that ruled him out of the May 24 matchup in Las Vegas.

UFC 173 is looking like a Fight Pass card. JDS vs Stipe.... Other then that...

Looks like the big question now is, what's going to be the main event? I could possibly see Dos Santos v Miocic being promoted and then moving Chiesa vs Trinaldo to the opening fight for the PPV. Unless they can schedule a big fight on this short notice, I don't really see many other options.

Shit card
This is what happens.
They need a title fight.
Either aldo vs Mendes
Or barao vs assunxao with
Another big ppv fight.

I got my trip booked but I will switch out this and try to make ufc 172 instead

How stupid to finalize a fight card then hours later your main event is gone.
Two Shit cards now in Vegas.
They need to stack the cards. Haven't they learned from ufc 151

What happens if Jones gets injured
Ppv main event Davis vs rumble.

Learn from your mistakes

They are reporting to be replacing the main event so I'm hopeful that they will still get a good main event but I mean c'mon, it really isn't hard to get some PPV worthy fights on there.
There are so many great fighters in the UFC that they should be able to put up great PPV fights. I would be fine with a stacked PPV card and maybe some less than appealing prelims. It just seems to make more sense that way but then again, I don't run this stuff so I cannot know what the plans behind the scene are (even though from this stand point it is "put on as many shows as possible with a couple big names and more so with guys who arguably shouldn't even be in the UFC").
