Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva posted a photo of himself back on the mats on Sunday saying, “I’m back.”
It’s unclear when Silva will actually be able to return to the Octagon, but he has indicated his desire to do so, and his manager and UFC president Dana White both said they believe he will be back near the end of the year.
This latest post follows others that showed Silva’s steps to recovery, including him walking unassisted down a flight of stairs and lifting weights just weeks after he broke both bones in his left leg during his UFC 168 bout with champion Chris Weidman.
Good news for Silva and his fans to see him back on the mat!

I agree. He really has nothing to prove at this point. The only thing that he could do is rush his return and risk injury or who knows how his overall game could be. Kicks are a big part of his game and I know if I was Anderson I'd be very hesitant to throw kicks. I can't even imagine the pain he was in after the broken leg. I see it as he's gonna go down in history as at least one of the best MMA fighters of all-time and his legacy is cemented. I think he's got nothing to prove to the fans or the UFC, I think he's trying to prove to himself that he can come back. At least that's how I'm taking it.
But props to Anderson for a so far successful recovery (in process). But hopefully he, like mattjonesy says, take your time Anderson. No need to rush this.

It's really cool to see such drive in Anderson, but I wish his Doctor would release some kind of a statement on the healing process. It's hard to believe he's already on the mats. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him come back and fight again just to see that sort of success story and great athletes have a way of surprising us all, but I would hate to see him get re injured in practice or something along those lines and then have to hang it up for good just because he rushed.

still seems so fast. I don't think we'll see him in the cage for at least a year. all these websites make it seem like we're gonna see him back any time now, but I don't care how well of a recovery he is having, that was a horrendous injury and he has every reason to take a bunch of time off from the octagon.

Notice the Nike check in the background. I think this has a lot to do with keeping the sponsorships happy. On his recovery, he needa to take it as slow as possible. Like matt said, screw the UFC and screw the fans. This guy doesn't owe either one anything.

I hope this is for the sponsors like how Copenhagen suggested. If he really is coming back he needs to take it slow. There is nothing that would bother me more than seeing him come back and get ko against a middle of the road opponent.

Bullshit...last week he had a video saying that he is frequently in pain and can not yet sleep an entire night. I think its an old pic that has been finally sent out to keep him from becoming obsolete to the general public.

whether he is back 100% or not and whether he is back quick or not isn't what makes me curious. There was a big question of whether Anderson WANTED to come back and now that the answer is yes, does anyone actually see the UFC denying him a comeback? I don't see that happening IMO so if Weidman still has the title by then do they make a 3rd match happen....
