The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today a modification to its live event bonuses. Effective immediately, UFC will award “Fight of the Night Bonuses” to each of the fighters in the best fight of the night, as well as additional “Performance of the Night Bonuses” to the two best individual performances on the card. The bonus amounts will remain $50,000. The “Performance of Night” bonuses will reward the athletes who put on the best and most exciting individual performances.

I actually like it. creates some better scenarios and will reward a guy who puts on an awesome performance but maybe can't finish a guy. Or if there's two spectacular knockouts or submisions you could give them both bonuses over say if there was a sub, which would be awarded be default.

This could be interesting, though I feel like if you won Fight of the Night then you basically already gave the "performance of the night." I'll see how they distribute them on Saturday to get a better idea.

That's kinda what I was thinking, though I was also could see it as a second ko/sub of the night bonus. It could also be used for fights like Jeremy Stephens vs Estevan Payan where Stephens put on a brilliant performance and just looked downright amazing, but his opponent was never really in the fight and got outclassed. I don't know. Like you said, we'll have to see how this gets used saturday before we have a better idea of what they mean.

I still cling to an old idea of mine.

There are a ton of different details leading up to how guys get paid that were originally part of this I won't rehash but in terms of bonuses they are based on individual performance measures:

If you finish your opponent via (T)KO or submission in the first round, you get your show money and win money (which are often the same amount) plus something like an additional 50% on top.

If you finish in the second round it drops to a 40% bonus, third round 30%, fourth round 20% and 5th round 10%.

A good decision still has the chance for the UFC's FotN bonus so not all is lost if you don't finish and are in a good fight.

I think there is a lot of incentive to both win and finish, more so then the current structure offers because every fighter essentially starts the fight with bonus money. They keep it, first and foremost, by winning before the fight can reach the judges and additionally they prevent the bonus from shrinking to a smaller amount by doing what they are able to do to keep the fight as far away from a judges decision as possible. I think there is incentive in knowing each additional round the fight continues and you are unable to conquer your opponent, you are essentially losing out on a potentially higher payday via a performance based bonus. This means if the winner of every fight on the card won inside the distance, every winner would be subject to a bonus depending on how quickly they were able to complete their task.

I like it. Now some guy with an everyday guillotine doesn't win an extra 50k just because there were no other subs that night.

I truthfully like the KOTN & SOTN bonuses better.

Dont really even know why there is even a "structure"

Just give the guys who gave the crowd what they paid to come and see a bonus

I was hoping to read an official bonus of 50k for every finish.

The only real benefit that I see is the fighters will be getting paid more which is cool.
But I do think that they could just resolve this by giving either 2 KOTN or 2 SOTN if there are more than 1 Knockout or Submission that is worthy of a bonus.
Idk we'll see how it works.

I think a smaller bonus for any and alll Subs/KOs would be better.
$25K for each finish.

EDIT: Just to be clear: a larger bonus would obviously be preferable for fighters. However, at 25K the UFC likely would not often pay out more than the 200K they currently give (50k KO + 50k SUB + 50k/50k FOTN = 200k).

That is exactly why the UFC did this. When they say performance they are just covering all bases in case any scenario comes up where there could be one crappy submission but two great KOs or if there was only one finish or none at all even. They are just making sure they can give out two bonuses besides the FOTN bonuses. This does add some flexibility though. In fact the guys who win the FOTN could also take both performance bonuses. This ought to be interesting.
