Brandon Garner is a professional mixed martial artist training North Carolina. But the 145-pounder, with a 4-1, record can't compete in his home state.
The Tar Heel state's legislature banned MMA after UFC 5 was held in Charlotte back in 1995, deeming it something akin to human cockfighting.
Yet there's nothing stopping Garner from heading over to one of the local motor speedways and entering his family car into a completely legal auto race. All he, or anybody else 14-years or older, has to do is sign some papers and pay a small fee. No proof of skill required. Or health. Or anything else, really.
