The Rory MacDonald of 2013 is a very different specimen from the youngster who ran roughshod over the welterweight division throughout his first few years inside the UFC. His ferocity replaced by a measured sense of restraint, MacDonald finally fell victim to his own evolution at UFC 167, where he lost a bruising split decision to Robbie Lawler.

Though however damaging it may have been, the loss could ultimately wind up being the best thing for the 24-year-old.

"I needed it," a candid MacDonald admitted on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour...

Did he also say this after Condit beat him?

He certainly didn't seem focused to me. At one point he had 1:30 left in rd 2 I think it was and was in top position just hanging out watching the clock.

That worked out pretty well for him. Most guys get upset when they lose bc they need a win. Since he didnt need the win, he should be pretty happy with how things turned out

he needed to lose because he didn't want to face more questions about fighting GSP

Any coincidence that his lack of fire coincides with the disappearance of DancingDoll?

Needs to focus more on fighting rather then wanting to be on the cover of GQ in my opinion. Another thing, cut ties with Firas Zahabi.

She "disappeared" into his house. I think that is a satisfactory trade off. We call it "work/life balance" in the working world.

Does Firas coach anything besides jab and stay at range. I am a bigger fan of grapple fucking because at least you have to control the opponent.

Parroting Tim Kennedy doesn't make it true.

GSP is coming off Fight of the Night Honors and he certainly wasn't just jabbing and staying at range.

Rory used that strategy vs Ellenberger, but seemed more than willing to trade with Lawlor...which is why he lost.

Other than that who else has fought with that style out of Tristar?

Bocek, Jon Jones, Yves Jabouin, Menjivar, Carmont, Makdessi, and Kenny Florian before he retired all fought with various different styles out of that camp.

Its been almost 2 years since a Cesar Gracie trained fighter has finished a fight in a major promotion yet you don't hear these kind of complaints about his style.
