UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis recently had to back out of the first planned defense of his title due to a knee injury.

Pettis had been slated to put his newly minted belt on the line against Josh Thomson in the UFC on Fox 9 main event on Dec. 14 in Sacramento. But when he aggravated his left knee in training that all changed.

If that timetable holds up, that's about 4 fights in three years for Pettis. That's a bummer, probably for him, as well as the fans.

Thomson-Bendo should be good though. Also can't help but wonder who Grant will face when he comes back. Maybe Nurmagomedov?

I hope pettis gets over all these injuries after this surgury. it feels like we have had nothing but traffic jams in the LW division. started with BJ and edgar.

TJ will probably end up having to fight Melendez in the meantime.
