Newly signed featherweight Tatsuya Kawajiri didn't have to wait long before getting an opponent for his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut.

"Crusher" will be squaring off with Hacran Dias at UFC Fight Night 34: Ellenberger vs. Saffiedine in Singapore on Jan. 4, 2014 at the Marina Bay Sands.
The news was first reported on Sunday night (Nov. 3, 2013) by Fight Sport Asia who confirmed the bout with sources inside Kawajiri's camp.

Tough first fight, I figured he'd get somebody less talented

I like this fight for Kawajiri. I think his wrestling will be enough to take this one.

This is what I was thinking. Potentially unfortunate. Kawajiri is a pretty awesome fighter.

I like the matchup for his first fight. Big test for Hacran and won't take Kawajiri a half dozen wins to get a top 10 opponent ala Fitch/Brown/etc. Nothing to be gained, only lost, by facing a fighter facing the UFC ax.

Over nearly 14 years and over 40 fights his only unavenged losses are to Gil, Eddie, Aoki, and Gomi. I'd like a Crusher vs. Fireball Kid 2 eight years later next.

He just beat the UFC 155 title challenger, Josh Thomson, less than 3 years ago. Being Josh's only loss other than Gil in the last 7 years. With victories over The Punk, Shaolin, Yves, Hellboy, JZ, Miyata, Krazy Horse, Fickett, Yokota, Buscape, Azeredo, Omigawa, etc. he should be facing top guys right off the bat. 10-2 in the last half decade only losing to Gil and Aoki. Dias is 11-2 in that time losing only to Lentz and Yui Chul Nam. No sense wasting 2 years making him prove himself all over again just for casual fan's sake. Toss him in and with a win, he's in the mix. He's 35 after all, I'm sure he'd rather sink or swim now than face fighters nowhere near his level to be 37 before he gets a guy like Dias. Fight location works in his favor if someone like Crusher would get first UFC fight jitters anyways, as he's fought in Singapore before, not Dias (Kawajiri 0-1 in North/South America, Dias 0-1-1 outside North/South America). It's his first UFC fight in the US I'm more anxious to see.

Great match up for both guys to see where they stand.

Cool fight. Should be a close one as both guys are pretty well rounded but I think Kawajiri might do enough to take it here

I think Kawajiri can win, but it's a tough fight.
