Honestly, I was thinking the same exact thing as Dana White during the same round; I thought the fight could've been stopped at any time in the third. I'm not saying I'm disappointed with Herb Dean, though. He did a great job as usual. I just think the cage (and his heart) was the only thing keeping JDS on his feet for the majority of that round.

What a fight. What an event.

Herb Dean actually went to stop the fight and touched Cains back, then changed his
mind and withdrew. Oh well, bad night of reffing. You need Big John in there with the HWs.

It's one of those tough calls as a corner. On one hand, JDS was getting handled. On the other hand, he was still landing stiff shots from the clinch from time to time and had Velasquez hurt in there on a few occasions. If you weren't going to throw in the towel in the 2nd fight, you definitely weren't in the 3rd when he was doing much better.

I noticed that too. It didn't seem to effect Cain but it was still uncool.

I heard the corner didn't toss the towel bc of an agreement before the fight. JDS said if it got too bad he'd just dive face first into the canvas.

I agree with Dana. In the first minute of the 5th round, I would have thrown in the towel. Junior was literally out on his feet from the punishment he took and from exhaustion. Cain punished him worse this time around. His cardio seemed to have elevated another notch for this fight while Junior's cardio looked worse. All that added muscle certainly didn't help Junior as some predicted. But anyway, towel should have been thrown in the 5th.

I'm somewhat amazed that Dana doesn't seem to know the rule on throwing in the towel. Whether it was the right choice or not, he should know what the rule is!
