Punishment came swift and harsh for Rousimar Palhares. Less than 24 hours after his controversial 31-second submission victory over Mike Pierce, Palhares has been released from the UFC.

UFC President Dana White delivered the news to ESPN's Jeremy Shaap on Thursday night's edition of Olbermann.

There are lots of easier heels to hook in Bellator anyway

I can't really agree or disagree here. I'm definitely surprised but I guess 1 pop and 2 long sub holds is about on par with 1 cheap shot a la Semtex

I agree 100%, might seem harsh but it's a safetly concern. He could have easily destroyed Pierce's leg there. There's absolutely no need of that, ever. It's bush league.

Palhares is known to be a bit of an idiot, though. He's done a ton of stupid stuff inside that cage, this being one of many.

I think the media is blowing the hold a little out of proportion. He held onto the lock sure but you would think he was cranking it ala babalu/heath. He dropped it quicker than he has previously.

Holding onto a leg lock has more serious consequences to the opponent than holding onto a choke, but I understand where you're coming from.

I generally agree with you. I couldn't argue the right kind of way to deal with his behavior but a ban from the UFC is pretty surprising. It was bad but i'm not sure it warranted a release.
On the other hand a safety concern is valid. You don't want to wait until he breaks someone's knee, heel, etc.
He sure is an interesting character is Palhares

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.
