Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva says he'd give up fighting if necessary if he had to fight teammate Lyoto Machida.

It's easy for the man with the belt to say he wouldnt fight his teammates. A lot harder if you are the one who wants the belt and all that goes with it.

I have to say, I'm leaning on picking Weidman to defend the belt, thus making it a moot point if he can pull off another upset.

It won't be an upset this time around. The Vegas odds are basically even for their second fight.

I agree with you on the issue being a bit more problematic now that he's not holding the belt. Also, when this came up the first time a few years ago Souza was outside the UFC, and Machida was in another weight class. Not much problem there. Now both of those guys are in the UFC AND in the same division AND approximately the same rank. Matchmakers will probably work with Anderson up to a point as long as he retakes the belt, but he may have to be flexible if he doesn't.

Listen, it's not all on Andy....

I must say, Machida is a gentleman. MMA is very cutthroat, and it’s sweet that Lyoto promised to never fight his girlfriend Anderson. That’s devotion.
