Eddie Wineland said he was not finished when referee Yves Lavigne jumped in to save him during his fight with interim UFC bantamweight champ Renan Barao.

I like Wineland, but he was very much done. He was ok after the kick, but that running uppercut to the neck and another follow up shot landed flush. If you're laying on your side not moving, you're all done.

That finish was clean and pristine! Eddie looked strong in there though, hopefully he can work his way back up

Eddie is a tough dude but when you just lay there what do you expect the ref to do.

I met a dude at the ACC who tryed to say it was early and in a title fight you should let it go a bit longer but that same asshole was hating on the ref for not stopping it fast enough in the Makdessi fight.

You cant have your cake and eat it to.

Agreed. The kick was sweet, but it was the follow up that finished him, and Herb dean saved him from a few more weeks out of the game.

Yup. I agree as well. Obviously Eddie wanted to continue but the stoppage was a good one imo.

I think it was a little early.

I'm probably in the minority here but I think the corner should be liable for their fighter. The corner should decide when to toss the towel and a ref should just be there to stop it when the fighter is out cold. There has been too many crazy comebacks to end the fight on a flash KO IMO. Not the worse stoppage I've seen but I think it could have gone a hair longer.

I agree to an extent, but the reason a ref has the ability to stop it was because originally it was only up to the corner. Big John McCarthy said he'd never ref MMA again after UFC 2 if he wasn't allowed to step in, as the corners weren't fast enough with the towel in some fights, and the fighters weren't tapping out to strikes like they were supposed to.

I agree the corner should be more involved in stopping it between rounds for the fighter's safety, but like that the ref is in control as well.

I read that the kick impacted some nerves that temporarily caused, at least one of his arms, paralysis. As mentioned, the ref did what was asked of him in that position correctly imo, good call.

Can happen. Yves Edwards did that to Josh Thomson with a jumping roundhouse kick. I think the technical term is a "Brachial Stun" or something like that.
