I didn't think much of Pettis when he came to the ufc. In-fact, my exact words were he was only good enough to be a gatekeeper. I'm wrong of course ( like I am about many things ). Anyway, I think Pettis matches up very well against Aldo. I believe Pettis is vulnerable against strong wrestlers but against stikers, he is among the bests in the ufc. I believe his style has a lot of potent ingredients that can easily spell poison for Aldo.

Pettis is a long range fighter. He has excellent kicks ( maybe not as powerful as Aldo's but just as fast IMO ). Pettis has two things going for him against Aldo. No matter where the fight goes, Pettis will be comfortable whereas Aldo will only want to stand. With reach and size advantage, I think Pettis can get the job done but those aren't his biggest assets. His biggest asset is he truly believes he is the best and that's crucial for young fighters. Do you think otherwise and is there another contender who may pose a bigger threat to Aldo than Pettis?

Honestly Mendes being that fight will likely happen soon enough. I'm always on the Pettis bandwagon but it's a coin flip and probably ends up looking like Shogun vs Machida.

Pettis, I think you need someone with range to beat Aldo. The longer the fight goes the less likely Aldo is to win since he has a grueling weight cut. Mendes might be too agressive for his own good in this situation, but it isn't like he can sit back and pick his shots since he's kind of a compact fighter. At LW it would be a different story, but at the moment I think Pettis has a better chance than Mendes.

I would say Mendes, but that didn't work out so well last time, But I think Mendes has grown since they last met.

Yeah I agree in that order.

I think Pettis beats him everywhere. Mendes has clearly improved and he actually was going quite well against aldo up until he got caught with the knee.

If either were to fight him I would pick both over aldo.

are we talking about at 145 or 155?

At 145 Mendes has the best chance. Aldo was very fortunate to have a fence to grab onto...that greatly changed the course of the fight. I'd still give Edgar a chance as the first fight was close (especially the last 3 rounds when Aldo began to gas). A motivated and in-shape BJ Penn is always dangerous but that appears to just me a myth at this point in time. Like with Penn, who knows how Pettis will handle the new cut.

At 155 Pettis, Benson, Melendez, Maynard, Diaz, motivated Penn, and Thomson all present challenges.

At 145: Frankie Edgar and Chad Mendes are about even shots (1 in 3 shot of winning)
At 155: Michael Chandler (2 in 3 shot of winning)
At 150: Anthony Pettis (50/50 fight)

Some of you have mentioned Mendes and I would just like to say that I do want to see a full fight between him and Aldo. I think the last one ended too prematurely and we weren't able to see how well Mendes would have performed. I think he would have given Aldo a good fight.
