Bellator middleweight Giva Santana has retired at age 41.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist announced his decision following a second-round technical knockout defeat to Jason Butcher at Saturday night’s Bellator 98.

He did. What I thought was funny was when Butcher said Giva couldn't hang with him on the ground. Giva is a forth degree Black Belt, after the first Butcher didn't want any parts of his ground game.

Either way good win for Butcher and nice career for Giva. 18-3 with 16 submission victories and an MMA career that lasted til 41 years of age. Not bad. I do think his jiu-jitsu is good enough for him to compete for some years to come.

ive trained with giva a few times. he came to our gym and did some Gi seminars and a few MMA classes too. the guy is unreal in GI jujitsu. he can literally toy with all the other black belts and sub anybody in the class whenever he wants. i tried rolling with him and i immediately felt like just handing over my blue belt. the guy is a savage
