A planned welterweight matchup with big implications for the division's title picture is set for this fall.

Several days after UFC President Dana White confirmed that the promotion would book a fight between Rory MacDonald (15-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and Robbie Lawler (21-9 MMA, 6-3 UFC), MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned the fight is targeted for UFC 167, which takes place Nov. 16 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena. Following the initial report, UFC officials confirmed the booking.

Both fighters are coming off significant wins and could take a step closer to a title shot with a win, which may or may not put the UFC in an awkward position.

This is the most Dangerous fight Rory has had since Condit, and rewards Robbie Lawler's rejuvenated career at 170!

I agree.

I don't really think this is a fight Lawler deserves, but it'll be a fun fight either way.

I like this fight, another top opponent for Rory.

I still think Rory can take this, but Lawler has been on a rampage as of late ( no pun intended ) and his hands have to be respected. Pretty sure he won't freeze like ellenberger.

Very exciting. As long as Rory fights smart he should take it.

I think everyone knows Rory's walking is going to walk in as the favourite in this one. Rory's now ranked in the top 5 for his weight class. He's no longer a young kid or a dark horse. He's the legit prospect.

Robbie has to respect that. His jabs improving, he's wrestling from the clinch is dangerous. Rory's a tall fighter meaning dropping levels for takedown is telegraphed from miles out and so Robbie shouldn't be focusing on shoot takedowns which has been his weakness. Robbie is going to have to be prepared for Rory to try and get inside and put him on his back. From far out, he'll be throwing Jabs, uppercuts, front kicks and leg kicks.

The question is what can Robbie do about that. How focused will he be about the takedown. I don't think Robbie will offer anything from his back. Its game over, he's not getting up or catching him in a sub.

The question on everbodies mind I guess is just what is the chance Robbie can catch him. Wins over Koscheck and Voelker show his improvement and that WW is his best weight class but I think he's lost to worse wrestlers at MW.
