Urijah Faber and Michael MacDonald both are UFC bantamweights who've fallen short to champions. But it's undeniable they belong at the top of the division.
The fighters both were victorious at this past Saturday's UFC Fight Night 26 event, which begs the question whether they should compete to see who should be first to get another shot at a belt.

MMA Junkie can't seem to get McDonald's name right
I think this would be an excellent fight. I can't think of a better match up for either of these guys right now.

Damn, I was kind of hoping Faber was going to get Edger.

Sweet fight. Makes since to me, and let the winner be the clear #1 contender.
Besides Barao has already beat both guys recently.

As hard as it is to pick against Faber in a non title fight, I'd have to go with with McDonald should they fight. Dude is a future champion for sure and after the mauling he gave Pickett, I can see him destroying anyone not named Barao (yet) or Cruz (if he was 100%) in the bantamweight division.

Faber did his thing and looked pretty normal for his standards, impressive even. Alcantara had a good fight for him, at least in the first round, but Faber never let him get back in that rhythm. For the other things happening on this card though, Faber's good performance was very much an afterthought. On a side note, I'm not convinced he will beat Barao ever, but when Cruz comes back, I think the already close margin between the two rivals will have shrank if not reverted back to Faber's favor.
Michael McDonald. He was star of the show I watched Saturday night. Must see MMA. Making a few calls right now, again, made them in the past but with less conviction. I think he lumps up Faber and is dangerous enough to attack his top game or rise from it. I take him over Cruz when Cruz returns because I'm convinced Cruz has seen his best days and will not be as explosive or dominant when he comes back. If the same Cruz as before returns, then things will be very interesting when these tow fight. McDonald will earn another Super Fight with Barao and it will be glorious. I'd like to see him fight anyone next really, Faber, Loser of Barao vs Wineland, Dillashaw, Caraway, winner of Perez vs Mizugaki, it doesn't matter. I'm glad to see McDonald got the FotN and SotN bonuses. I thought he was the most impressive fighter on the card. Biggest Robbery of the night was this fight being a prelim while Dana put's his hype job on the Main Card. Props to Pickett. You gotta be more then tough to hang in there with the shots he took from McDonald who has proven KO power.
