When former Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion Ian McCall inked a deal with the UFC in late 2011, he had high expectations. He entered the 2012 UFC Flyweight Tournament to determine the inaugural UFC 125-pound champion.

He faced Demetrious Johnson in the opening round and the two fought to a draw. Johnson was originally declared the winner, but after a scoring error correction, the fight was ruled a draw. Johnson defeated McCall by unanimous decision in a rematch...

Yikers.

Guess he shouldn't have had a kid with his girl if she ruined his mind for fighting. That's a lifelong shackle at this point.

Unfortunately he has a history of making bad decisions and making excuses won't fix that.

I had his first fight with Johnson 29-28 in Creepy's favor, that fight should of saw another round at worst, he beat up Johnson bad in the third and would of kept that up.

There are not to better guys you can lose to though at Fly then Jo e wan and MM.

I really like McCall but I wish he would stop being so hard on himself and hopefully his demons are gone for this fight. I mean he arguably beat MM and his last two fights he's lost but have been close with him winning one round in each and against the two best guys in the division. I really really hope he beats Santos bad.

Just what I was thinking. Even if he never beats MM or Joey B he could easily fall into #3 at 125. MM and JB are monsters and not to say McCall can't ever beat them, but being runner up to those two at 125 is like being runner up to Silva and Weidman at 185. I really want to see him get a solid w though, if they cut him it would be a travesty.

Even though they love cutting guys that go 0-2 or 1-2, I think the 125 lb division has some exceptions given both how thin the division is and how tough the competition for McCall has been. I think he'll be just fine.

What did McCall really expect? He wasn't even all that successful in the WEC, and he just expected to come dominate in the UFC? Shit, I still remember Charlie Valencia knocking him dead and throwing him around like a ragdoll in the WEC. It was obvious even way back then that he was nothing special.

You missed the entire middle of his career dude.

He went on to destroy every flyweight in the world prior to the UFC making it a division. Beat every ranked fighter with ease and arguably beat MM that first time if judges didn't suck at math.

You mean his time with Tachi Palace Fights? I didn't miss that part, I just didn't really think he was all that impressive, nor did I feel that his opponents were very good either. I'm not saying Ian is terrible, but I don't know how he thinks he has "blown" his career thus far. He did what he could, and he lost. The only way he has "blown" his career is just by not being good enough from what I've seen.

Again, I'm not saying he's terrible, but I never expected him to be a UFC champion in the first place.

Ok, you mentioned WEC and UFC, but never the part of his career where he actually became fantastic.

As for competition, Jussier Silva is hands down the best BJJ fighter at this weight, and Darrel Montague should realistically be in the UFC already, considering he's a nightmarish striker with an amazing upside if given an opportunity.

You have an odd interpretation of talent if you're writing all three of those guys off as simply "not terrible".

lol... be that as it may, I wasn't at all surprised to see McCall lose his last three fights. After watching him compete in WEC and TPF I never really expected him to be capable of beating Mighty Mouse or Benavidez, although obviously his first fight with Mighty Mouse was close.

I was just throwing in my two cents. I don't expect everyone to agree with me. When McCall says 'I've kind of blown my UFC career so far" it kind of sounded to me like he's saying he wasn't trying hard enough or wasn't putting in enough effort, but perhaps I was misinterpreting the quote in thinking that.

I'm just not surprised at how his UFC career has played out, because it's pretty much going as I expected.

Ian McCall nothing special.Like in another post if the judges had it right he would have been the Flyweight Champ. The 2nd Mighty Mouse fight was all Mighty Mouse and he lost to Joey B. Name a fighter or 2 that you know can beat him on the UFC roster right now excluding Mighhty Mouse and Benavidez.
