After some speculation he might test the free-agent market, Roy Nelson (19-8 MMA, 6-4 UFC) has instead signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC and will face Daniel Cormier (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) this fall.

UFC officials today announced the bout following an initial report from the Houston Chronicle. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) subsequently confirmed Nelson's new deal with sources close to the promotion.

Thank god! I was worried this fight wasn't going to happen for a little while

I wanted DC vs Werdum.
Beating Roy won't change where DC is on the HW ladder.
Huge opportunity for Roy to get back in it quick. Very unlikely though.

Prozac started a thread yesterday about 5 fights that could happen this year and DC vs Big Country was one of the fights that I had listed.

I actually like this fight. I've got to imagine DC is gonna want to resort to his wrestling background. If DC decides to stand and trade with Roy, it could be a bad night for DC.

I hope we see a motivated Nelson unlike the Nelson that came in on short notice against Miocic.

Glad they made this fight happen after all the hype and trash talk between DC and Big Country.

This match up doesnt do much for DC in the rankings but it keeps him active and it seems like he has a true dislike for Roy. I see this one being a classic.

Can anyone tell me what Roy is going to bring for DC to be worried about other than an over-hand right?

Anyone...

Roy Nelson is a black belt in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu under Renzo Gracie & may be able to use those skills if it does go to the ground. I see Cormier trying to close the distance & grapple against the cage with short shots as he did to Frank Mir & as Mir did to Nelson in decisions. It may be DC's mistake if he decides to take it to the ground, but he's better off there then on the feet at a distance. Right now you gotta give the edge to Cormier to be able control the action to a decision, but if he's already begun cutting weight then I could easily see Big Country getting the knockout.

Good co main. Anyone of them bails out. Chances are winner or Browne vs reem would take their place.
Glad I am going to Houston

I like Roy and am happy he gets this, but this is such a wacky sport in regards to match making and "deserving" fights and working your way up the ladder

It's all politics

I'm taking Roy as long as he doesn't pull a Frank Mir and not bother with his great BJJ background

Shouldn't be a big problem for DC. The big right is all Roy has for him and if he doesn't get that in the first 3 minutes he won't.

I like Roy's personality, but I see DC doing pretty much anything he wants to Roy.
