It pays to be the champ. Or at least, it used to.

New UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman earned a disclosed payday of $48,000 for his weekend win over Anderson Silva. The ex-champ, meanwhile, earned $600,000.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today obtained the list of disclosed fight purses from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

UFC 162 took place July 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card, including Weidman's second-round TKO victory over Silva, aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Weidman, who opted not to renew his UFC contract until after the title fight, is likely to get a handsome raise from his current pay, which included $24,000 to show and $24,000 as a win bonus. Silva, meanwhile, would have earned an additional $200,000 as a win bonus.

You mean to tell me the guy who won didn't make as much as the guy who lost? Who came up with this system. Don't they know the winner should get alll the money?

I'm fairly sure that Weidman will get a nice sum of undisclosed money for his roll in the headlining bout. And yes, in some places garbage men actually do make more than 90k.

Fair enough but if he fights at least 3 times a year, Im pretty sure there aren't very many garbage men that make more than Tim Kennedy.

In which case 90,000 is relative to where you live.

Erm....

You did comment on it though. In the most literal sense of the word. Also, this is about pay. Not about the fight.

What exactly is the point you are making?

Penn vs Edgar 2, GSP vs Serra 2, Lesnar vs Couture? I'm just guessing though, they popped into my mind as possible and I'm not doing the research
