Semmy Schilt has reportedly retired. The kickboxing great is no longer going to be fighting. Get all the details right here at Bloody Elbow.

i was never a big fan, i always thought the dude was a pretty boring fighter, but reality is he's probably one of if not the best kickboxer ever. ernesto hoost probably had a better career.

I don't watch as much kickboxing as I should, but from what I've seen from Semmy he will be missed.

Sucks to see someone have to retire because of a medical condition but at least he left on a high note winning the Glory tourney back on news year eve.
Only got to watch a few of his fights but this kind of inspires me to try to find some more kickboxing/MMA fights of his

He's not the most exciting guy to watch, but his wins are undeniable.

Ernesto Hoost x2

Schilt is a bit like Jon Jones in that he dominated with freakish size, and you are never sure whether it was the size or the skill that won the fight

He will be greatly missed. I think he was scared of getting matched up with Spong so he retired.

Too bad, one of the greats for sure. Retired for the most part as the #1 Kickboxer, 4 Time K-1 GP Champ, finished out as Glory GS Champ.

There was some drama stirring on numerous forums up when K-1 enforced a new rule banning restricting on knee clinch strikes - calling it the 'Schilt rule'. (But also applied to MT type fighters as well, but more prominently associated with Schilt)

Best of luck Semmy

No offense, but this has to be one of the most idiotic statements I've ever read on these forums. Semmy will go down as one of the greatest kickboxers of all time perhaps the best tournament kickboxer. He holds wins over some of the elite as FastKnockout pointed out earlier.

By the way, according to Glory CEO Andrew Whitaker, Semmy is still active and to his knowledge, isn't retired!

He will go down as a great champion, but he dominated the same way the Klitschko's do, by never putting his self into harms way, simple yet effective but more to do with his size than his skill.
