article

and I quote:
"As far as Stephan, I have nothing against the guy, but you've got to be a world champion, I think, to be in the Hall of Fame ... That's a big honor to be in the Hall of Fame," Ortiz said to MMA Junkie. "It means you had a significance in the sport at one time or another. You look at that, and the Forrest and Stephan fight was a big step for the UFC, so do they deserve it? Possibly. But can one fight get you in the Hall of Fame? I don't know. I guess that's Dana's decision."

its the companies Hall of Fame not the sports.

Its more about who made the UFC the most money, not who was the most successful inside the octagon

The general public is going to think HOF = all-time great. That is sickening. They better induct Igor Vovchanchyn at some point.

Can one fight get you into the HOF? Yes, when it's as significant as Griffin/Bonnar was. That fight alone was credited for bringing in a shit ton of new fans and possibly sponsors. Some called it the starting point of a new era for MMA. I have no issue with Bonnar being in the HOF.

Do I have an issue with Tito being in the HOF? Now that's a different question.

This goes along with my previous post.

Igor can't be inducted as he never fought for the company.

Its the UFC hall of fame, not the MMA hall of fame.

i dont really care if bonnar is in the HOF or not, but i think there is a lot of valid points for him to be both IN the HOF and NOT. he was never a world champ or even really put on much good fights, along with PED abuse i could see the arguments for denying his HOF status. but we can all agree that the fight with griffin put the ufc on track to go mainstream and that has a ton of weight for his HOF status. i think they maid the right choice in putting him in there, but again, if they hadn't, i wouldnt have given a shit

I was kind of hoping they would put certain match-ups in the HOF, this could have been the first. Bonnar in the HOF, I would have said no...Forrest I would have said yes.

If Bonnar's in, than they should let carmen electra in as well. Dana talked about how much Electra did for the UFC when she was their brief spokesperson .
Maybe that sounds a bit harsh,i know, but if Bonnars name was never mentioned for HOF honors I think it would be less of a controversy than the fact that he is.

No doubt the fight was huge and it did a lot for MMA and the UFC,but I would also argue it was going to happen anyway. I think the general, growing interest was their already, their fight was simply the icing on the cake.

I can see the point in letting him in,i just don't agree.

I'm cool with him being in. In general, I think you should have to be an all-time-great. But Bonnar/Griffin was a special moment early in the sport's history.

Can one fight get you into the hall of fame? Usually, no. In this case? Yes.

We'll probably never see it again though and that's a good thing. The sport has moved beyond its growing pains and no longer hinges on single moments in history like that.

for once i kinda agreed with Tito.....Bonnar never held a belt, they need to be clear on what HOF status is because honestly all Bonnar did that was significant was put on his fight with Forrest, which is a very significant part in MMA but ultimately he didn't really have any big wins and was never close to ever being a champion. Heck even Mark Coleman beat him up when he was way way way past his prime.
