Josh Burkman is a man of his word. So when he signs a contract, you can expect him to fulfill the terms of it.

That's why the resurgent welterweight, who upset former UFC title challenger Jon Fitch this past weekend in World Series of Fighting 3's main event, won't be returning to the UFC even if his former home made him a new offer.

Right now, his loyalty is to the WSOF, where he's 3-0 with wins over Fitch, Aaron Simpson and Gerald Harris. Now 8-1 since his 2008 UFC release, Burkman recently nabbed an honorable mention slot in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA welterweight rankings.

Glad he beat Fitch. Nothing wrong with making Dana a wee bit annoyed

I'm glad Burkman is a loyal guy but lets be honest the UFC probably has zero interest in signing Burkman again.

They'd have plenty of interest. He's now marketable by saying he smoked Simpson and Fitch. Feed him to someone.

I believe Dana tweeted something about an offer to come back to the UFC while he was ripping Mazzagatti a new one for the late stoppage.

Exactly. Use Burkman to build somebody else up.

But yeah, I couldn't care less whether he returns to the UFC or not.

Eh, who knows. It's not unheard of for someone to turn own a UFC contract. Bibiano Fernandes did.

i still think that is was less about how good burkman is and more about fitch and simpson being out of their prime. simpson is no spring chicken and fitch has been fighting for a long time now and from what i saw in his fight against burkman, it looks like fitch's chin aint what it used to be. i think burkman would get shredded by any of the top 5 guys in the ufc.

Sure he is just going to wait for a Jake Sheilds/HectorLumbard pay day. Where you build your name up sooo big that the UFC has to pay big $$$$ for him to lose to Hendricks

But not waiting for Alverez type $$$$

That would be stupid

I agree with a lot of your posts, but this one to me is laughable. You really think UFC has Zero interest? GSP couldn't even finish Fitch with 5 rounds. Burkman did it early in the first. Think people didn't notice? UFC is all about the money. Bringing Burkman into the UFC would be smart of them to do so. Putting a hot fighter on a card would draw ppv buys, and Burkman is finishing his fights, which is what the UFC wants.

Burkman's striking looked good, he is really showing improvement. He could stay at WSOF keep winning, against top opponents, but he runs the risk of losing there also. It may be best to follow the money, although I heard he made 200 gee's from fighting Fitch.

He's a star in WSOF, might as well revel in that. Good job vs Fitch. I've met him before, he's a nice guy.
