Jon Fitch reflects on his submission loss to Josh Burkman at WSOF 3 on Friday night (June 14, 2013) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"I got a little overconfident with my choke defense and was going to try to slam him, but he locked it in too tight. Mistake on my part. I should have fought the choke right away."

-- World Series of Fighting (WSOF) welterweight Jon Fitch immediately reacts to his 41-second submission loss to Josh Burkman (watch it here) in his post-fight interview at WSOF 3 on Friday night (June 14, 2013). In what the entire mixed martial arts (MMA) community considered a shocking upset, Fitch was choked completely unconscious by a guillotine choke from "The People's Warrior" and it resulted in his third loss in five fights. Fitch, who successfully defended 28 of 28 submission attempts in his tenure with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), got put to sleep with the first submission attempted on him in the WSOF cage. The 35-year-old blamed overconfidence in his submission defense as a reason why he lost the fight, and given his track record it's hard to blame him. Nevertheless, it was not the type of performance he was hoping for and it just proves a technical error

What do you expect from the next WWE champ. Fitch didn't stand a chance

I guess that makes Burkman the 170 champ outside the UFC

The UFC is fucking awesome at cutting fighters right before they take a complete nose dive. Dana has a big on his face after that fight. Fitch who?

Josh Burkman did not look like that last time I saw him fight haha....

In all seriousness though, Burkman has been on quite the run lately. Harris, Simpson and Fitch in a row might mean a UFC return at some point.

He had a similar scare against Paulo Thiago awhile back too. When you roll with guys all the time, you eventually develop that ability to relax in dangerous spots, which gives you that little room to keep the blood going. Problem is, that guillotine has been Burkman's go-to move his entire career. He knows how to hit it and a perfect choke is a perfect choke.

This will definitely postpone his octagon return but Dana was pretty clear that the problem with Fitch was his price tag. After this loos Fitch won't have the same kind of pull for the money he's getting this time around. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him run 3 or 4 wins off in a row and get back in the UFC. Burkman needs an offer now IMO though. He's been killing it and has looked incredible.

Looked like Fitch got rocked preeettttyyyy bad just before getting choked out. It seemed more of a case of getting his ass handed to him rather than not taking the choke seriously.

This guillotine was the coolest thing ever. I thought my brain was going to explode.

The fact Burkman didn't wait for the ref and just tossed Fitch off him and stuck his hands in the air was the cherry on top.
