The title fight between UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones (18-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) and Alexander Gustafsson (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) will headline UFC 165 in Toronto.

UFC President Dana White today confirmed the plans at UFC 161's open workouts in Winnipeg.

Earlier today, as MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) White tweeted that the fight likely would take place in the fall, though he initially didn't get mention an event.

UFC 165 is slated for Sept. 21 at Toronto's Air Canada Centre. The main card, which will feature Jones vs. Gustafsson in the headliner, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Jones is ranked No. 1 and Gustafsson No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA light-heavyweight rankings.

After winning the title from Mauricio Rua at UFC 128, Jones has successfully defended the belt against Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans and Vitor Belfort before making quick work of Chael Sonnen, who was stopped with elbows and punches in the first round of their April fight. Since a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill in 2009, Jones has won nine straight fights with eight stoppages. Only Evans went the distance.

Awesome! Gustafsson may be Jones biggest competition at 205. I still think Jones comes out on top, too strong and big for most in the 205 division. Jones via rd2 GNP.

Personally still think Machida is Jones biggest "challenger" even though they did fight already.

I'm glad that Gustafsson is getting the shot. I want to see Jones fight someone he hasn't already fought.

I am curious at whether Rampage was right though when he said "He's the kinda guy you gotta fight twice"

I don't see Gustaffson as a huge threat. I know he's improved since his fight with Davis, but Jones will outclass him everywhere. I'm confident Jones will get the job done in the 1st rd. Fights with Cormier and Machida (again) seem more interesting

Gustafsson is good but there's little chance he pulls this out. He really isn't threat anywhere and Jones reach will make his style useless. I say Jones TKO anytime he wants

The only proven technique to put Jon Jones in danger has been an armbar out of the guard so I hope Gustafsson has been working very diligently on his guard and submissions. I think this is going to be a damn good fight.

Alex def has too use his boxing movement and foot work to win this one..Alex def has more striking power, just cant let Jones take him down or clinch up..stick and move and out box Jones..

so much of Jon's game, striking and wrestling is reach and leverage. It may be harder for Jones to fight Gus since he is slightly shorter. He will still have the reach (and definite wrestling advantage), but I could see Gus making it close for a bit.
