UFC veteran Jeff Curran is out of the RFA 8 main event due to personal reasons, but a new opponent is already in place to fight Sergio Pettis.

Does anyone else think "personal reasons" is an odd new reason to drop out?

Curran tweeted last week to the UFC that after this fight he's ready to come back at 125 as soon as the Pettis fight is over. I think the UFC may be pulling them both over shortly/eventually, and if the fight is to happen they'd rather have it on their terms. I'd expect to see Curran signing with the UFC very shortly, maybe Pettis as well unless he needs more seasoning but I imagine that's the reason for this.

He's afraid to lose. He doesn't have a fighter's mentality.

Maybe the man lost someone he knows personally. Thats the only time I have ever used that expression.

I was really excited to see Sergio get tested by a successful veteran.

Curran's dog was nearly killed by a car on Monday, which is why he dropped out of the fight. Had to keep the dog at home and stabilized until Wednesday when he could have surgery to fix it's neck and front legs. Sounds like his kids were pretty shaken up and he took some time away from being a fighter to be a dad. Crap situation all around.

Curran has fought dozens of elite fighters across three weight classes for over a decade. The idea he'd be scared to fight a 19 year old kid whom, frankly, isn't very good, is a bit laughable.

Wow, fighter bashing much?

He's got some personal things going on and he hasn't been able to get into the gym. This is the most important time in training and if he can't train now, he can't be in fighting shape. He's staked his career on his next fight, promising to retire if he doesn't win.

I'd say its a legit reason.
