Daily bacon might not seem very healthy but 105-year-old Pearl Cantrell swears by it.

The centenarian has raised seven children during her lifetime and recently celebrated her 105th birthday, but it isn't a healthy diet, exercise or medication that she attributes for her longevity. "I love bacon. I eat it everyday, " she says. "I don’t feel as old as I am. That’s all I can say."

Bacon is a food that has come under considerable scrutiny in recent years, both because of its popularity and because scientists can't seem to decide on whether it is beneficial or detrimental to eat it on a regular basis. In two recent studies, a portion of processed meat ( such as bacon ) every day has the potential to increase the risk of death by as much as 20%. A very small helping every day however of less than 20g was linked to a 3% risk reduction.

she said, you all dont eat bacon in texas or what?

to which i said, of course we do, but we're not putting it in our shakes and ice cream

I love bacon. No way i could eat it plain everyday. I tend to mix bacon in with a lot of things; mac n cheese, greens, salad, eggs, pancakes, burgers, grilled cheese, veggies, potatoe hash and other things. Bacon is like a condiment you can also eat by itself.

Bacon has contributed to my obesity on a weekly basis.

And I'm from Colorado

I've always found the bacon obsession thing to be odd as well. I've always just seen it as that bit of meat that sits next to your eggs on a breakfast plate.

I almost never eat regular bacon - I've always been a turkey bacon kind of gal. It's so much better.

My biggest gripe with bacon is fast food chain Wendy's ...those bags of douche lack consistency with their bacon, Either the bacon is too hard and crispy or it's too soft and almost like gum, Baconator and junior bacon cheeseburger's are great but the consistency of the bacon is a joke.

Now BK they get their bacon skills down, it's always the same....and fucking delicious.

LOL... but have you guys at least tried Turkey Bacon? You have to admit it's pretty yummy.

My main issue with regular bacon is that it's greasy and unless it's extremely crispy the idea of soft/chewy meat makes me gag.

Sorry - I know this sounds sacrilegious to the Holy Church of Bacon.

Turkey Bacon blows, its exactly what you described in your dislike for Normal Bacon. Its chewy and cardboard'ish. Rather eat the package

Only Turkey Bacon that is acceptable

Yeah, I like the dryness of Turkey bacon - but it's crispy with a nice level of inner chewyness. I don't mind chewy - as long as it's not the blubbery chewy you get with undercooked regular bacon.

Regular bacon IS great on a Turkey though to add flavouring - you're right on that one.

Most overrated food ever. Yeah, I said it. It seems that everywhere I go, especially here in the Midwest, people obsess over bacon. Of course, I consider myself to be somewhat of a food snob since IMO I come from the land with the greatest food in the world. So yeah, bacon to me is the Chael Sonnen of food. Loved by many but will always be overrated.

I've tried turkey bacon many times and it sucks royal ass. Believe me, I want to like it. I eat turkey more than any other meat, but there's just no substitute for bacon.
