Nick Newell has refused to defend his title at XFC 24 against Scott Holtzman. Here is an interview with XFC President John Prisco.

I'd rather fight and lose than be stripped for refusing to fight

Absolutely disgraceful, and I fully agree with XFC pres that Holtzman was going to run over him. That's life though, and getting into the sport and training, he had to realize there was a ceiling to what he could do in there. For a guy who non-stop posts pictures of himself holding his belt on twitter, he wasn't keen to defend it.

Glad to hear the president lay down the law, and stip him of the belt.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

'Listen, when Nick came to us at the XFC Tryouts, his biggest complaint was that no one would take a fight against him. Everyone was telling him, it’s a no-win situation taking the fight. If you beat him, you beat a guy with half an arm…. and if you lose, you just lost to a guy with half an arm. He knew by signing with our promotion that he was going to be guaranteed fights, as our fighters fight the person I put in front of them. Nick built his name on fighters who were willing to step up and fight him. And now, the opportunity he received, he is not willing to extend to Scott, even though they both carry the same XFC record (4-0). To me, that’s hypocritical and I have zero respect and no room for any individual that acts like that in my organization.'

This pretty much sums it up.

This is very surprising to hear. I lost a lot of respect for him doing this. This won't help him get towards his goal to be in the ufc.

Before jumping to conclusions keep in mind we are only getting one side of this story. For all we know it could be a schedule conflict, a dispute over money, or any number of other things that have nothing to do with Newell not wanting a tough opponent.

Agreed.

The other side -> Newell Says He's Not Under Contract

Always have confidence in a fight. Take your licking
But not wanting to fight someone you do deserve to be stripped

Although I think Newell is pretty under rated and could have won that fight, he's being plain selfish.
The promotion isn't based around his wants and I'm sure the goal of signing him was not to build him up just so he could to go to the UFC.
He's acting as if he's a seasoned veteran, wanting to fight experienced guys and stuff, he's only 9-0 with victories over pretty much unknown fighters.
I hate trashing guys but I just think he's being a bit ridiculous.
