Approaching two years since his last fight, former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin on Tuesday announced his retirement from MMA. Carwin leaves the sport on a two-fight skid, but more importantly after fighting through injuries and surgeries.

We can at least be happy he has a career outside the fight world and can afford to leave MMA behind. Very few positive retirement stories like that in combat sports.

That sucks. Although I don't think he would be a champ, always looked forward to potential cinder block smacks

Sad to see him go
I met him a few times always a cool person
Won't forget his fight vs gonzaga at Ufc95 in Columbus
Shit card but his knockout made up for it. Great city.
Hope to go again for another Ufc event some day

Honestly, I don't care...the dude hasn't fought in two years and can't stay healthy...if its fucking up your body to that degree then its not worth it really.

He was old and probably made the right decision...it's too bad he didn't start earlier in his career, he was pretty dominant while it lasted.

It's crazy how fast a career can fly by.
It just seems like an hour ago he was the juggernaut of the hw division.

Iwish him all the best.

That's a shame. The Big Country Carwin beef was cool. I really wanted to see that fight.

Is it just me or does it seem like the end of an era? Brock, Carwin retired, Kongo is gone and REEMs off the roids. Whose supposed to be the scary HW that looks like he'll rip his opponent in half?

I knew it was coming. He was off for so long due to the injury that I knew something was up.

I'll miss him for sure, how could you not be a fan of a guy who's goal in every fight is to KO his opponent as quick as possible and made a successful career out of it?
It's nice for him he can still continue to work as an engineer so he doesn't have to further injure his body to make money.
Have a great retirement Carwin, you will be missed!

Big fan of Carwin and his fights, sad to see him go but it's probably for the best.

Going to miss watching him crumple dudes with those canned hams he calls fists.

Leading up to UFC 116 and looking back at it. I don't think I will ever be as excited to see a Heavyweight fight than I was back then.
The Scariest man on the planet who would take you down and pound you out vs a guy nobody can survive 5 minutes against and nobody could take down.

Looking at the Heavyweight division I believe that fights hype will be my favorite for years to come
