The smell of a room that has been moderately smoked in by a cigarette smoker. It takes me back to 6th grade around christmas time when we all got N64. My buddy was the only one who got Mario 64 so we would play it at his house and his mom was a smoker. Still feels like yesterday when we were so inept we could barely get any of the stars in that game.

That controller was such a mindfuck, no one could figure it out at first. I had no idea how to even hold it, and my thumb was destroyed after 45 minutes. Now, I could pull a truck with my thumbs. Thanks video games!

Great movie list tattflash.

Man, the anticipation of heading to the video store, and hoping that one movie or video game you desperately wanted to rent, was still there brings back some memories.

Were you young enough to remember renting NES games? You'd get them home and they would usually barely work, so you'd have to clean the things, or call the store and they'd say

"What did you get? Bionic Commando? Yeah, you have to blow hot air into it, then very gently insert it into the NES. Trust me, it works."

That happened to all NES games over time. And there was the "put it in most of the way but not quite all the way and push down" trick. I used a combination of the two methods. Loved my NES. First two games were Metal Gear (still remember the unlimited ammo/weapons code - 5SZXZ MZZZC IJOFU U1RU6 NJZTQ, and Wrestlemania.

Ah yes, the good ole days.

As a teenager, I had a friend that worked at the local video store that was owned by Arabs, and whenever they ordered a new UFC on VHS he would reserve it for me on the day it came out.

Everyone had their tricks, and I'm not convinced any of them worked! Pretty amazing a company would put out a piece of equipment that was expected to fail most of the time.

Original Metal Gear was the shit. Eating rations while underwater to avoid dying and walking around in a cardboard box to avoid detection were two things in that game that made a ton of sense.

I was always drawn to this game when we went to our local rental store. They rarely had the good games in stock, so I rented this multiple times.

After the video game crash of '83, Nintendo really wanted to separate themselves from the classic top-loader system, hence the VCR style loader it had. Unfortunately for them, it only complicated things and made for one of the biggest console flaws in history. I'm guessing whatever testing they did, it wasn't sufficient. It's really too bad though, because the NES was my favorite console of all time. The silver lining though is that it's easy to pick up old consoles on the cheap and just replace the 72-pin connector for a few bucks and it'll work like new.

I had to place a pen inside my NES so the cartridge wouldn't go down all the way but not up all the way either.

I remember........ Kung-Fu SYLVIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHOP!!!CHOP!!!CHOP!!!CHOP!!!CHOP!!!CHOP!!!CHOP!!!CHOP!!!.

Skate or die was awesome too.Rubbing your knuckles raw to build up speed for the high jump.
