The next step has been laid in Demian Maia's quest for a welterweight title shot. The phenom-grappler, and former middleweight title contender, is scheduled to face Josh Koscheck at UFC 163 in August. While some may see this as a wasted fight for Maia it has the potential to provide real clarity to a murky top-ten at welterweight.

Since dropping weight last July Maia has been on a tear, with dominant victories over Dong Hyun Kim, Rick Story, and Jon Fitch. Despite his success, his place in the division is still a little unclear. With Fitch released and Kim and Story both near, but not quite in, the top ten of the division, Maia feels somewhat still in need of validation. Enter Josh Koscheck.

I'm not going to lie, I would have liked to see Maia against someone not coming off of 2 losses. Especially after handling Fitch.

This should be a good fight though and a win over Koscheck just adds to Maia's resume.

I agree. Oh well tho. Should be a fun fight to watch. I think Maia will pick up a win. I would love to see him choke out Kos.

with everyone

Maia has been on a tear. It's just a matter of time before he gets his shot at the belt.

If/when he wins I'd like to see how he would match up with Rory Mac.

weird match making but after looking at the top 10 right now it actually makes sense. Everyone in the top 10 is booked other than these 2 and Martin Kampmann.
Not going to complain seeing as Maia probably wants to stay active and win over Kos would help solidify his contender ship and hopefully he's close to a number 1 contender's fight after this

I heard K-1 picked up Aoki after his vicious beat down on Antonio McKee.

I thought they decided not to after reviewing his fight with a man in drag

lol You can't blame Aoki. He was absolutely dominating the K-1 round with his foot work. I think we all knew Aoki had no chance in the mma round.
