Huge step up for Pettis. If Curran doesn't get the fight to the floor, I see him losing another decision though.

Its not that he's playing it safe. He comes from a traditional jiu jitsu mindset where defense is emphasized over offensive and you have forever to find a submission.

It worked great for him early in his career. Lots of his fights occurred before the unified rules of MMA were implemented.

Now he can't sit around and wait for opportunities. The current 3 five minute rounds system favors aggressive fighters and wrestlers by default.
