A welterweight bout between Mike Pierce (16-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and David Mitchell (12-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is the latest fight targeted for July's UFC 162 event.

Sources close to the event confirmed the planned matchup with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

UFC 162 takes place July 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

This sucks for Pierce.... He's on the biggest named winning streak of his career with wins over Baczynski, Simpson and Rocha, he's 8-3 in the UFC
David is 1-2 in the UFC, with his only Career success being in 2009 beating Bobby Green (at WW) and War Machine.

I wanted to see Stungun vs Pierce.

Looks like this fights been set up to give Mitchell his walking papers. I see no way Pierce losses and this fight won't tell us anything we don't already know.

I would be veryu interested in this fight. It would force both of them to work from diferent positions than they're used to with those high level grappling pedigrees.

I think Pierce should roll through Mitchell, hopefully with a 2nd rd tko

A Mike Pierce squash match is very unnecessary

Yeah it seems bizarre that they'd announce this bout and Sponge v Lawler. It seems like both Pierce and Sponge deserve stiffer competition.

Wrestling match which Pierce wins. I'd rather see Pierce busy than wait for top 10 guys. He's being a man and fighting who's in front of him.

Pierce shouldn't have any trouble whatsoever in this fight.

Pierce has been out of action for awhile now. I personally think this is a great fight for him to warm back up

Maybe Alves is ready to come back but like Robbie Lawler I see no interest in him fighting another wrestler...just look at how good his fight against Kampmann was...Pierce is ready for a bigger name, it isn't like his lay off was that long.

Pierce is in a weird place. He can beat pretty much anyone outside of the top 10, but he almost always gets edged out by the top guys (although never really dominated). He'll be great for fights like this and give the UFC someone that can reliably dispatch fighters that simply aren't UFC caliber. I'd be careful about putting him with prospects, though. Good chance he derails them in unspectacular fashion.

Had Story not taken the fight with Pyle, I think that should/would have been the next fight for Pierce. I'm really hoping those two meet soon, the bad blood is there and their styles are so similar that I think it would be a great fight.
