If Gegard Mousasi seemed slow and deliberate in his unanimous decision victory over Ilir Latifi in Saturday's UFC on Fuel 9 main event, he had a good reason.

The former Strikeforce and Dream champion revealed following the event that he suffered a knee injury during his training camp, which will require surgery.

Mousasi, who improved to 34-3-2 on his career, didn't want to get into the specifics of the injury, but elaborated as best as he could at the post-fight press conference...

I have never thought too much of Mousasi and had Gustafsson picked to beat him. However after hearing this I have a new found respect for Gegard. I can't believe he fought on a injured knee and Alexander withdrew because of a small cut on his forehead. What a warrior, I bet Mousasi was happy Latifi didn't try to take him down more. If Gegard could cut to 185 he could make a name for himself, but I don't think he has the athletic ability to contend at 205.

Gegard is more athletic than one would think, he's just precise and methodical.

So Dana just made another ass of himself when he was talking shit about Gus' poor excuse. I didn't know that, not suprised at all. I am pretty sick of Dana White's shit talking.

No he was shit talking the commision or whatevev governing body for deeming him medically unfit. I don't recall seeing him criticize gus unless it was for poor training ettiquite so close to a headlining fight.

as far as i'm concerned, this fight never happened. gagard was injured and latifi took it on super short notice. we got lucky that the rest of the card was badass, because the main event was less than impressive.

"Injured" knee?

I have a (Q)uestion fellow CHAELgrounders......So, does that mean GSP fights "injured" every fight?? Cuz the way JAB-hard fought yesterday, you would think Moosesassi and George swapped spit in preparation for this AWESOME gameplan.

That will probably mean no Mousasi vs Gustafsson match. Well not for a while anyways. I have to imagine the UFC will keep Gustafsson busy while Mousasi is recovering from surgery. Unless the Jones vs Sonnen fight is a quick one without the winner getting too banged up, I could see Gustafsson waiting for that since he's suppose to be next in line anyways.
