I think the way they are doing this big roster purge is a mistake for UFC (though in this case Damacio probably deserved to be cut when they did). They are cutting a lot of old semi-known fighters in favor of brand new B level prospects that even the most die-hard fans don't know about.
They are opening the door for all the old school fans to get behind something like Affliction or Strikeforce which were both big enough to at least cause the UFC to make a move against them.
If you look at the UFC FUEL 9 card vs the WSOF fighting card next week.....the Mousasi fight obviously stands alone as the best fight but after that, the WSOF card is comparable in terms of both fighter "name" and skill level. and it doesn't even have Fitch, Volkmann or Torres on the card.
