Just promote it however you can guys. I stand up for the PG on the MMA Podcast, heck I'll start advertising it on MMA Memes on Facebook when the next season rolls round.

I think it can start getting a bit tedious when theres cards every weekend and fights such as:
Kyung-Ho Kang vs Alex "Bruce Leroy" Caceres
Kazuki Tokudome vs Cristiano Marcello

and the most important bout on the card is:
Hyun Gyu "Ace" Lim vs Marcelo "Magrao" Guimaraes

For people who aren't obsessed with the game picking can become a chore

Actually some of those fights are very important especially from a betting line.

I know and that's exactly my point, for none-hardcore gamers who every week get these fairly unknown guys it can become a chore, especially when big money can be won on them and the hot bout can screw an entire event.

I love this site.

I play fantasy MMA on 1 other site but I don't take the time and research the secondary league like I do here. Since I've joined I've never missed a pick and only missed picking 5 fights on 1 L2 card. Which I'm still convinced cost me a Badge.

I've tried to recruit people to join this site. So far I have 1 person that joined but she doesn't post and only plays the UFC cards. Everytime I go to Buffalo Wild Wings and I notice someones really into the fights, I mention mmaplayground to them so who knows I may be responsible for a few others joining.

I will admit, in my first stint on the playground, things were much more lively. Many more members playing and posting everyday. I was part of the whole MMArmy fight camp ban. Most of the members of our fight camp were perma-banned, but a few of us were allowed to remain. We were banned from the forums, but allowed to continue to play the game. I soon grew bored and left. Regret. regret. regret.

Bottom line is there are no other sites out there like the playground. Many members were treated unfairly, but the site would not be what it is today if every knucklehead had been allowed to stay. I'm back and I couldn't be happier.

It's a combination of a lot of things.

DC massacred a lot of dedicated posters who were also dedicated players. It should have never happened, and if you guys still have contact with anyone who got the boot from this site tell them to contact us. We have a policy of giving almost everyone a second chance now. Unless your one of the people that posted gay grandpa porn, or were a ringleader in an attempt to harm/sabotage the site, you can come back.

There have also been a lot of people who have just kind of drifted away over time. There are a few reasons for this. One, MMA is just not as much of an online sport as it used to be. Two, it's been over 6 years now since we started. People who were twenty-something mma nerds are now 30-something professionals and parents. People have families, careers, other hobbies. Third, lots of fans really are more fans of certain fighters than of the sport as a whole. How many people lost interest when a guy like Liddell retires? Or how about a guy like cmill21? He was an institution on this site for years, but when Cro Cop faded, it seems he lost interest in the sport.

There is going to be a certain amount of loss over time. Our real problem at this point is lack of new players. That has a fair amount to do with other sites with infinitely more traffic instituting fantasy mma. We were the first, and I still think our game formula is the best, but we just can't compete with the exposure that sites like ufc.com and sherdog have. Word of mouth means a lot more to us, so its really up to us as players to get new people. Meet someone at a bar who loves MMA, send em to the site. If you see jackelope, rcg916, or butterballs, tell them to come home.

We have been around for a long time now. Think how much the sport has changed. Almost all the best from 2007 are gone or shadows of there former selves. Jon Jones hadn't even begun to train MMA in January 2007, and Jose Aldo was just some starving street kid fighting for peanuts in a favela. So many more televised cards now, as well as other mma programming on TV have made it less necessary to get the mma fix from the internet. PRIDE, ELITEXC, BODOG, IFL, Affliction, Strikeforce and Dream have all went the way of the dodo bird. MFS was the best US fight camp, Greg Jackson was just some dude with a decent camp of guys who all seemed to get into TUF, and ATT wasn't the best top team. Sokudjou was considered a hot prospect, Overeem was a B league LHW with gas tank problems. The UFC could barely keep a LW roster going, FW and BW could only get fights in Shooto and WEC, and 125 only happened in Asia.

The action of an mma fight has changed to. Fighters are better athletes now, and more fighters are well-rounded. It used to be that a wrestler with a good double leg and a gas tank was enough to be a champ. Nowadays, even a prime Hughes or Sherk would get mangled by the top guys in their weight classes. All the top guys have excellent TDD defense now (with the exception of Anderson perhaps).

There is so much better depth of talent in the sport too. In 2007, it was still fairly common to see guys with day jobs fighting on big cards. Many people were getting in the ring or cage with nothing like the nutrition and cardio programs we see now.

MMA has come so far, and with all the leagues and fighters that have come and gone, MMAPlayground is still kicking.

Yup.
The hot bout needs to go. It add a further element of chance into an already chancy game. It's not needed, and can overly skew results,.

Also back on topic, good post ncordless. I post far less often now, I'm running a busi ess and have far less time for discussion on here, but when I do come here, its because the PG has the most respectable and civil MMA minds of any other sites I've encountered

Hot bout needs to STAY

Why not make the closest fight worth more? I like it because it is such a game changer. Yes, it sucks when you miss it, but that is balanced when you do hit it and react like this...

I agree. I like the hot bout. I'm not always a fan of it changing on the day of the fights but it definitely adds an exciting element to the picks that a lot of other fantasy sites don't offer.

This. I like the added bonus, or heart break the hot bout brings. I also think it makes you look at the fight much closer, and is a good talking point for your fight camp. Maybe the hot bout can be locked a few days before the event, or locked right away, based on the Vegas betting lines.

It would make it better if it locked a few days before the event. But the reason I olay this game is to see how good I am at picking winners and comparing my score to others. Getting double points for one fight really does skew the results. I can't see why you would be a fan of something that throws the game out of wack.
