After opponent Manny Gamburyan (12-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) was forced off the lineup with multiple injuries, his opponent, Chad Mendes (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC), has confirmed he's also off the card for next week's UFC 157 event.

Mendes made the announcement via Twitter...

That sucks. I can see why no one wants to step in on short notice to fight Chad.

I was thinking the same thing. Fighting Chad with a full fight camp is tough. On a weeks notice accepting a fight with him is a mistake

Sucks for us as fans but its the truth

Looks like no one wanted to step in for a KO loss.

I heard a few 155ers wanted to move down to fight him but fear of hardcore MMA community ridicule stopped them. Who have they beat to get a shot at the #2 fighter?

Disappointing but I can't blame anyone for not stepping up.

I'd like to know if Mendes wanted off the card because he wouldn't be able to study his opponent enough. or if the ufc just couldn't find anyone for him. And of who they asked turned down the offer to fight him.

I'm with you. I guess all the real fighters at 145 reside in Bellator.

maybe we can see him fight on one of the other cards coming up. he's ready now but he can extend his camp and take a fight in like a month, plus that gives an opponent a chance to get ready. still sucks he's off the card, mendes always puts on a show even when getting KTFO by aldo.
