Two of the most dynamic strikers in all of mixed martial arts will meet Aug. 3 as Anthony Pettis (16-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is dropping from lightweight to 145 pounds to challenge current champion Jose Aldo (22-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) for the UFC featherweight title.
USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on Monday learned of the booking from UFC President Dana White.
"Two of the baddest dudes in the fight business are going to fight at 145 pounds," White said. "These guys are two of the most amazing, gravity-defying athletes in the sport. I am so pumped for this fight."

So Pettis hasn't fought at 145 before. So Aldo has a list of new contenders and he won't have fought a 145er in 18 months. So Pettis becomes the third man to get a title shot in a different division this year.
Is there anyone who actually isn't excited to see these 2 throw down? I can't wait for this fight

This is freakin awesome ! This has got to be one of the best striker v striker title match ups in ufc history.
pettis has some of the most dynamic striking ever seen in the octagon. At this stage i would not know who to pick.

I love it. I feel more confident in Pettis than i did for Frankie. War indeed. Something wild will happen.

I am not prepared for the amount of complaining that's going to take place on this thread. Before people cry outrage over this booking take into account that Aldo is prob the best fighter in mma with the least drawing power. & while few people will argue that Lamas doesn't deserve the shot at the title, at the end of the day a fight with Lamas won't solve the issue that Aldo isn't as big of a ppv draw as his skills should have him be. Aldo has paid his dues & deserves big ppv fights like all the other elite champions get. Its not his fault hes the best at 145lbs & not 170lbs & up. Sorry guys but its as simple as a ppv cut from a fight with Pettis >>> a ppv cut from a fight with Lamas.
Why people would complain when the end result is a dynamic fight like Aldo vs Pettis is beyond me but whatever I'm pumped

Very exciting match up.
Lamas just got the shaft though. Maybe Lamas vs Siver or TKZ next?
By now it's evident that these new division rankings mean absolutely nothing.

This fight is amazing of course you could argue a 145er should be getting the shot given some guys are now proving themselves but how can you not be excited by this fight!!!!
Also there is no way this goes to a decision Shirley!

Awesome fight! WAR PETTIS Normally I am upset when some goes to a new weight class and gets a shot right away. But Pettis is one of my favorite fighters. Bring that title to Wisconsin. LETS GO!!!!

Awesome fight
Pettis is a great opponent for Aldo. This one will be an instant classic. Personally I think Pettis has a better shot at beating Bendo, Aldo is going to be to fast for him in my opinion.
WAR ALDO & WAR FOTN maybe FOTY

Sick matchup I can see a back and forth striking war until someone gives! If Aldo has gas tank problems in this fight we may see a new 145 pound champ!
Hopefully they put together Lamas vs TKZ now!
