LAS VEGAS – MMAjunkie.com was on scene and reporting live from tonight's 2012 World MMA Awards red-carpet, black-tie ceremony.
Tonight's industry-wide festivities took place at The Joint at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
The ceremony, which was a black-tie affair with red-carper arrivals, was co-hosted by UFC fighter Chael Sonnen and sports reporter Molly Qerim. The event also included performances by the rock group Otherwise, as well as the acro-cabaret variety show Absinthe.
Although the event did not air or stream live, FOX Sports Net will broadcast the show nationally via tape delay on Jan. 20.

Varner vs. Lauzon for FOTY.. It was a good fight but I thought Hendo/Shogun and Chandler/Alvarez were clear 1st and 2nd.

That's f*ing bullcrsp. Jones fighter of the year. Wins over Rashad and Belfort make you the fighter of the year now apparently. Wins over the number 2 in the division and a win over the number 3 185 pounder makes you the best fighter this year.
I rank Jones second.... In his own weight class this year. He beat Rashad and an Vitor. Gustaffson beat Silva and Shogun least they are both in the same weight class.
In each division these are my fighters of the year: HW Streuve 3-0, Cain 2-0 LHW: Tied Jones and Gustaffson (both 2-0) MW: Wiedman 2-0, (Originally tied with Boetsch before the Costa loss) WW: Tied: Hendricks 3-0 or 2-0 & Matt Brown 4-0 LW: Benson 3-0 FW: Swanson 3-0 BW: Barao 2-0 FLW: Dodson 2-0-1
Cain beat the number 1 and a top 10. Jones beat an Unranked LHW and a number 2. Benson beat the number 1, 2 and a top 5. Dodson beat a number 1 and 2. Hendricks beat a 2, 2 and a top 5. In my opinion he beat, 2, 2 and 1 but that's a unique opinion. Even Boetsch beat 2 top 10s which is more than Jones did. Silva beat the number 2 and stepped up in weight (not fighting a lighter weight guy).
Personally for me I see no reason at all to give this award to Jones other than Marketability. "This guys the 2 time fighter of the year and he's not even 26 years old"
Fuck these awards and fuck the fair weather fans who seriously believed Jones was fighter of the year. He deserved it last year and I didn't complain this year it makes me question whether these awards are a scam.

Hendo/Shogun and Chandler/Alvarez took place in 2011, brother. It's weird to me that they're nominated.
I probably would've given SOTY to Rousey. And definitely would've given her Breakthrough Fighter of the Year over Weidman.

Both fights took place after last years awards, I think it goes from November to November not January to December

Winner: Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu
For gym of the year? Curious how this is decided. Cesar didn't even win coach of the year! Nor did his camp provide any champions.
Also Jon Jones fighter of the year? .
Some of these decisions are laughable.

I am a fan of Bisping, but International fighter of the year?? a win over Stann and a loss to Sonnen warrants this ?? Struve has been far more active and successful and should of took this in my opinion. And Sherdog for media winner?? Really??

In my opinion Ronda should of been fighter of the year. She was definitely the most talked about fighter this year and her performances were all extremely impressive not to mention she is the only reason women are in the UFC

no surprises except for the FOTY. it seems like they covered fights for over a year i.e. shogun/hendo (2011) all the way to varner/lauzon
edit: my bad i obviously dont know what i'm talking about, i was thinking lauzon/miller

I think Bendo should have been fighter of the year.
And I agree re Bisping being a poor choice for International Fighter - Struve should have picked up that one.
