Following his stint coaching on season two of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, Fabricio Werdum will square off against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. A win would earn him a heavyweight title shot, if UFC President Dana White is to be believed.

By the time the night is out tomorrow evening (Sat., Dec. 29, 2012) at UFC 155 in Las Vegas, Nevada, we'll know whether Junior dos Santos kept his heavyweight championship or whether Cain Velasquez pried it from his big Brazilian hands.

Because it's never too early to look ahead, we're wondering who the winner has to look forward to. After all, the 265-pound weight class is supposed to be as deep as it's ever been, right?

Well, according to UFC President Dana White, Fabricio Werdum has the opportunity to earn a crack at the crown if he can defeat Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira when the two square off following the conclusion of their stint as coaches on season two of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil, which is tentatively scheduled for June 2013.

I think Werdum has came a long ways since his first fight with JDS. And I also think he deserves a shot at the title next providing he wins. And I don't see him having any trouble with Big Nog.

I might be in the minority, but i fully expect Nog to boss Werdum up on the feet.

And i dont exactly see Bigfoot as a cakewalk for Overeem.

I think the Ufcs plans arent going to work out as expected.

No matter WHAT happens, that UFC heavyweight title better be defended by the current champ by June. If Fabricio were to beat Nog, the timing would be right for another title defense by the end of the year.

So tired of TUF holding back current fighters, especially champions. Tired of the lack of legit title fights.

Werdum will lose his title shot before he ever gets it. Overeem has already been promised a title shot, Cormier will get a title shot if he beat Mir and JDS wins, Werdum might not get a title shot until 2014 if he does earn one.

If someone would have told me 2-3 years ago that the UFC HW title picture would be this interesting despite Carwin/Brock absent, I'd have thought they were crazy.

I'd like to see Overeem get the title shot first especially against JDS as I think that match-up is just amazingly good. Werdum seems legit, but he's not really fought the kind of competition that completely proves that for me. A win over Big Nog at this point will hardly change my mind on that.

Personally, I think the best sequence is Overeem (when he beats Bigfoot) vs. winner of JDS/Cain. Around that time have Werdum vs. Cormier, and the winner of that fights the current UFC HW champ.

Nog vs Werdum is in June, Overeem vs JDS/Cain winner will happen around that time so it plays out just fine

Yup, lets just hope Reem comes out with both hands still working. I wish they would have given Reem a guy with a softer face for his tune up match.

i dont think werdum earned this shot IMO. his stand up has looked better lately but i still dont think he's that great. i WILL enjoy watching him get mauled by either JDS or cain because i think either will destroy him.
