Rory MacDonald (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) again made it clear that he has no intention of vying for the welterweight title as long as his teammate Georges St-Pierre is champ.

But he has a keen interest in the man St-Pierre is scheduled to fight tonight – interim champ Carlos Condit, who beat him in his second UFC fight.

"I'm fighting B.J. Penn, and I plan on beating him," MacDonald said Friday. "We'll see how the fight with Georges and Carlos goes. Either way, I plan on hopefully getting my rematch with Carlos in 2013."

Don't look past Penn, Rory. Many a fighters downfall have been for that very reason

That's a good point George.

The rematch with Condit makes a whole lot of sense to me. But if Condit or Penn pull the upset the rematch will no longer make any sense.
I think both GSP and Rory are both gonna win. If that happens Condit will probably be ranked 3rd or 4th while Rory will be right around 6th. And if Rory losses it'll probably push him right out of the top 10.

Given fact if gsp wins
Then faces Silva. Then kammpman vs Hendricks winner
Chances are mcdonald won't get a title shot till 2014

I picture him beating Bj Penn because Bj is somewhat retired, and than fighting Fitch or Kampman to become number 1 contender. Rory is well rounded and hits very hard on the ground especially. If GSP wins tonight and doesn't take the Silva fight, than there could be tension for for the team when Rory earns his title shot. I don't see a rematch with Condit unless Condit wins tonight and beats GSP in a rematch because otherwise Condit will be coming off a loss and may need 2 fights to climb back to the top.

That third round of the first fight was one of the most brutal displays of Ground and pound i have ever seen. Do you really want more of that Rory?

So he wants to avenge his lone loss in his fighting career that he would have won according to judges scorecards if not for the third round, final 7-second stoppage. Can you really blame him? Considering that was only his second fight in the UFC that's pretty damn impressive. Sure Condit had one round, but Rory had the other two. And that fight was before he started being mentored by GSP and training at Tristar. Given how much he's evolved as a fighter since then and the sheer desire and drive to get this rematch, I think Rory would finish him if given the chance.

Could Rory make 185? He's young and could get bigger...how much does he normally cut to get to 170?

it would be 3 years since that fight when he was only 21. It was an early stoppage where if it went to the judges, Rory would have won the decision. Much different fight this time around, and Condit will still have poor TDD. All Rory will need to do is work armbar defense from the guard and he'll be fine

Rory seems like a smart guy, pretty sure he is not looking past bj.
