Nate Marquardt vs. Tarec Saffiedine targeted for Strikeforce's return in January |

According to sources close to the event, Nate Marquardt will defend his Strikeforce welterweight title against Tarec Saffiedine at a planned Jan. 12 event. A host city and venue is still unknown at this time. The fight is expected to be televised on Showtime.
Strikeforce has yet to officially announce the fight, which has been verbally agreed to by all parties involved.
Marquardt (32-10-2) won the Strikeforce belt in his promotional debut when he knocked out Tyron Woodley in July. Meanwhile, Saffiedine (13-3) has won his last three fights in a row, most recently defeating Roger Bowling via unanimous decision in August.

Nice fight, makes the most sense right now too. Have to pick Marquardt all day though, Tarec has impresed me but he's just not on Nate's level.

This is their best option at this point but Marquardt is too much for him I'm thinking.

Marquardt came in sharp and hungry against Tyron Woodley and absolutely annihilated him. Tarec's a solid guy, but that may actually be his best asset. If Marquardt comes in unmotivated or injured, he could fail in the first title defense. He's not young anymore, and lest we forget, his experimentation with TRT (and really, his failure to properly disclose it) is why he's in the other Zuffa promotion. It's a bitch to train at that age and with that many fights.
Nate takes it on paper, that's the outcome I expect, but I don't need to go into Goldberg / Rogan levels to validate Tarec's choice (especially with the SF roster).

Btw can we drop those pancrase fights from MMA records finally? Seeing those 10 losses (5 from pancrase) is sad. It was partial contact.

Marquardt is going to be way to much for Saffiedine no matter where this fight takes place. Look for Marquardt to dominate and get the finish in this one
