this kind of bothers me.....not that they're doing it persay, I sort of understand, it IS his hometown. But where is this stuff for Anderson, or Jones, or even JDS, these guys IMO are just as big a draw whether your'e a fan or not. I'd put Anderson or Jones fights in a theater before a GSP fight.....just sayin.

Silva, Bones, and JDS (and I'd add Aldo in there, too) are all super popular. The thing is, GSP is a straight up national hero in a country that can financially justify movie theater attendance. The other guys don't quite have that combination.
--Bones is getting big, and he's part of an athlete family, but he's not anywhere close to universally loved like GSP, Aldo, or JDS. Plus, MMA's not quite a mainstream sport in the US. It's getting there.
--MMA is a mainstream sport in Brazil, but their UFC cards are on free TV there. Don't need to go to a theater, and with genuine respect, I'm not sure how many folks there could afford a theater ticket - or at the price the theaters and the UFC need to see a worthwhile return.
Could it happen in Brazil or America? Sure, it's possible. I'd love to see the exact numbers. But it's just that much more likely to work in Canada for their star.

This isn't anything new, UFC 143 was shown in 3D and in over 100 theaters.
I think an event headlined by Liddell around 115 was shown in theaters as well.
Also if you look at the PPV Buyrates the UFC has had over the past few years GSP is by far the biggest draw the company has now that Lesnar is retired.
Over their past 5 fights here is the average # of PPV buys each has as a headliner.
GSP - 783,000 Anderson - 604,000 Jones - 528,000 Junior (Only headlined 2 PPV's) - 445,000
