A long-anticipated fight between lightweight contenders Anthony Pettis (15-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Donald Cerrone (19-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC) is nearly set.
Sources close to the promotion told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the fighters are targeted to meet at a UFC event on Jan. 26, possibly UFC on FOX 6.
A venue for the event could not be confirmed at the time of this writing, though sources said Chicago is one candidate.

Awesome
This would make for a great main event or co-main event depending on how they want to approach this.

I can't believe Cerrone is already 6-1 in the UFC....he's been tear assing through the division... sorry,
I am really ready for this fight! I just hope both guys, especially Pettis, can come in as close to 100% as possible by then.

Pettis is a step down for Cerrone at this point in time, rankings wise. Pettis barely beat a top 20 in Stephens and another top 20 in Lauzon almost a year ago. Cerrone dismantled Stephens and beat boarderline top 10s in Guillard and Siver. 6-1 in the UFC >> 2-1 in the UFC. A loss to Guida is worse than a loss to Diaz. Cerrone should be fighting someone like Maynard (if he beats Lauzon), Jim Miller (although hes coming off a loss) or have him fight Alvarez if/when he signs.
If you want to build Pettis back up, give him someone like TJ Grant or Matt Wiman- a winnable fight over a credible opponent that will be exciting and put his name back into the casual fan's mind after a year absence. Pettis imo is no where near a title contention shot right now. Cerrone is a very tough opponent for his first fight back after a long layoff, and a potential Bendo/Pettis title rematch could very well be nixed.
This fight will be fireworks, but the Pettis hype train has already been derailed once...do you really want to risk it again?

Well Cerrone called out Pettis and said he wants Pettis....I dont think Cerrone worries too much about title fights and whines...His is coming...I mean he did lose to Ben already so the UFC is in a dilemma kinda...
