Negotiations to keep Eddie Alvarez in Bellator resumed nearly the moment he stepped out of the cage following a knockout of Patricky "Pitbull" Freire.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney now has advanced the timeline on Alvarez's decision, telling MMAjunkie.com that he'll waive a standard 90-day matching period if the ex-champ doesn't initially take a new contract offer.

"Based on our relationship with Ed, there's no reason to hold him to a series of months of not having the opportunity to look at those offers," Rebney said.

So if you didn't like him, you would screw him over for those months?

Even if Bellator loses Alvarez to the UFC they (Bellator) still have the guy who beat him...LW Champ Michael Chandler. I hope Eddie signs with the UFC though. It would be exciting to see him fight some of the UFC'S LWs.

He'd take Taylor down and destroy him.

No. He's simply saying that he's not going to waste Ed's time and that they will try to settle this immediately. I know Bjorn. He's very passionate about Bellator and the sport of MMA and has a tremendous amount of respect for the fighters. He would do the same for all.

Yeah, sticking to the the way the contract is written wouldn't have been screwing him over. He's being a cool boss here and making things potentially less complicated for the fighter.
