I decided to make cuban sandwiches as a special at my cafe today, and had one for lunch, as I've never eaten one before. It was perhaps the oddest food experience I've ever had. Honestly, I don't like anything on it really, but the combination of stuff was so interesting, I actually really enjoyed it.
So, what are your thoughts on cuban sandwiches?
For folks that don't know, a cuban is ham, a specially seasoned and shredded roast pork, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard, grilled.

The small cafeteria in my building makes them once a week as their special of the day. I agree, it is an odd combination of flavors, but it works for me. I wish I could try one of yours, the cafe here often uses stale bread, dry pork, and their pickles are very suspect.

Yeah, I get bakery fresh bread, made the cuban pork myself over 12 hours, and know the difference between kosher and non-kosher pickles (they probably buy kosher and don't refridgerate them.)

Not sure about the traditional one, but I use black forest ham. I'm not sure they even have "deli ham" in Cuba, so I'd guess something a bit more legit.

A Miami native here (100% white by the way) and Cuban Sandwiches are one of the most tastiness sandwiches ever created!
Do yourself a favor and try it out once, you will not regret it.......if so you only wasted about Five bucks.
