Ultimate Fighter 16 coach Shane Carwin has suffered a minor knee injury that will prevent him from traveling on a scheduled trip to England this week, but he will still fight at The Ultimate Fighter 16 finale against Roy Nelson.
Carwin first reported the knee injury on his Twitter account saying, “ATTN UK Fans: I hurt my knee training and I will not be able to make the signing with the amazing people @FearlessUK.”
Carwin’s manager Jason Genet of Ingrained Media told MMAWeekly.com that he injured the knee while in wrestling practice, but he suffered no major tears or damage to the knee.

I gotta bad feeling that Carwin will retire in 2013... the dudes pushing 40 & he`s constantly injured. Nothing against the guy, I`m a huge fan & he seems like a great coach on the new season of TUF & hes definitely a legit fighter! The poor dudes just so accident prone

What's the point of releasing the injury if you still plan on fighting? Now Roy will target the knee.

Only reason I can think of is to have an excuse for losing already in place.

I was going with Nelson already but this pretty much seals the deal. Carwin had his run but his age and injuries have caught up to him. Mix that with the long layoff he's had and this just isn't a good fight for him.

Or maybe because he was going to miss an engagement and didn't want to be a dick and just say "I'm not going to be there"

Carwin was going to gas after the first round anyways. I can see him beating on Roy for about 3 minutes, after that he will be done. As mentioned this definitely makes the pick even easier, if his knee is giving him trouble now his cardio will be completely shot. I give him props for sticking it out and going ahead with the fight though.

I agree.
This sort of thing needs to be tightly kept under wraps.
Even after the fight, you should only talk about injuries if you win. Otherwise it looks like you're making excuses.

i was thinking the same. he's in his later 30's and with so much time out of the cage i could definitely see a retirement coming soon. i think i'll still probably pick him to beat roy, i think roy will get out pointed in the standup.

Still picking Shane. So what if his footwork is a little off, it isn't like Nelson is going to leg kick him to death or be too quick and sure footed for Shane to land. Carwin's my boy and he's winning this fight.
